Second Spectrum was founded in 2013 by Rajiv Maheswaran, Yu-Han Chang, and Jeff Su. Prior to starting the company, Rajiv and Yu-Han were professors at USC in artificial intelligence, while Jeff led engineering teams at the big-data startup Factual. Working with player tracking data, Rajiv, Yu-Han and a small research group submitted a paper to the 2012 MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. They won the Best Research Paper Award that year, garnering the attention of professional sports leagues and teams. They won the same award for another research paper two years later. Today, we have over 75 employees across 3 international offices, including former professors, big data startup veterans, elite undergraduates, incredible designers and professional athletes. Together, we are revolutionizing sports through intelligence.
